One World Media Awards 2013
One World Media Awards 2013 - 7th May – Kings Place London
Setting off on a sunny Bank Holiday in Manchester, the Comtec crew headed to London for the prestigious One World Media Awards. Having worked with One World for well over 15years now, it’s always a great pleasure to see the One World clients again.
Loading into the Kings Place on Wednesday morning, greeted with smiley faces from the venue staff makes the “get in” a lot easier!
The rig went well especially on time, and problem free. The crew were focused, rehearsals ran like clockwork and the food was great too!
Guests arrived and gathered in the drinks reception. As they networked the crew were ready in place, with final checks done. Guests took their seats in the auditorium and were addressed by the Chair of One World Media. This year was a special anniversary for One World their 25th to be precise. What an amazing achievement! Patrons, the current board and their predecessors were all thanked as he introduced Jon Snow, Jon is so passionate about the awards and opened with a great speech, he then began to host a great awards ceremony.
The Awards ran smoothly, media, sound, lights, prompt and the web stream all spot on, and with the live band playing to accompany the winners walking up to collect their awards, the event was a success.
Congratulations to all the well-deserved winners and all who was nominated for their courage, tenacity and creativity in all categories.
Thanks again to the Kings Place crew who are as ever a pleasure to work with, last but no means least the One World staff that are so organised and prepared, they do a great job year after year.
Well, back in Manchester now looking forward and prepping for our next event. Looking forward to next year One World!

Eventstagram receives funding & joins the Wayra family
Live photo feed company Eventstagram is one of 17 start-ups to have been selected by telecoms giant Wayra for its annual business academy.
Eventstagram was co-founded by Dan Strang and Ollie Harridge in September 2012.
The business concept is a live feed of customisable Instagram photos that can be uploaded by guests at events, exhibitions and festivals.
Eventstagram was chosen by the Telefonica-owned company from 3,444 applicants.
As part of the investment, Eventstagram will be granted €40,000, nine months of office space in Wayra’s Capper Street block, and access to a network of contacts and business support.
The company has covered 2,000 online events since September 2012, and created feeds for brands such as Elle, Air New Zealand and for The Gadget Show. Bosses now believes the company has potential to grow at a much quicker rate.
Strang, chief executive of Evenstagram, said: "Wayra wanted something that was innovative but also something that held a bit of magic – we felt we had those things. We have done something quite disruptive in the events industry."
The Wayra programme begins on 29 April, where Strang and Harridge have big plans for their company.
"Firstly, we want to develop the reporting side so that when events have an Eventstagram feed they will be able to organise and interact more effectively," said Strang. "They will be able to see how many people take photos and how much influence they have on social media.
"We also want to allow people to display their photos not only live at the event, but also on their website or blog."

Comtec attend Confex 2013
Cheryl and I took a trip to London for the day to check out the annual events industry conference 'Confex'. After a series of train journeys, testing our navigation skills, we arrived at the conference just as it started and attended seminars throughout the day about new media, wireless technologies, developing working partnerships, the future of conference suites and creating an experience at events. We also went to a few seminars which showcased some exciting new media and technology, which has definitely given us some food for thought.
We also managed to
sneak in a presentation by former Deputy Prime Minster John Prescott who spoke
about his views on conference based politics and obviously a word or two about
the current coalition government. His talk was interesting and he was more than open to poking fun at some of his past
experiences, some of which were highly publicised at the time!
In addition to the seminars we
had to be sure to leave time to explore the rows upon rows of exhibition
stands. The exhibition featured everything from outdoor security and barrier
hire, to quirky companies such as a roving silhouette artist, elaborate table
centrepieces, photo booths, celebrity impersonators and other companies which
you might expect such as AV suppliers and app creators! There was so much to
see there, we almost didn’t have enough time to get round it all!!
In summary the conference was a good way for us to see where
live event technology is headed, which was great as it is extremely important
to us to stay dynamic and current. We were also able to pick up some unique
ideas for adding those little touches to a live event that make it the most
memorable, which will contribute to the continuous improvement of the options
we offer to our clients. Overall an extremely successful field trip!!!!”

Innocent launches new Inspires events
The new series of one-off events will kick off on 18 April with a session dedicated to health. It will feature Olympian James Cracknell and television GP Dr Pixie McKenna.
The Harrow Club in North Kensington will host the health-focused event, which aims to promote discussion, debate and inspiration around Innocent’s brand values.
Prior to the event, attendees have the chance to join running collective Run Dem Crew for a jogging session around the streets of London.
The series will continue in June with an event highlighting ethics, and featuring model Erin O’Connor and celebrity chef Arthur Potts Dawson.
Innocent’s founder Richard Reed will lead a discussion on entrepreneurship during an event in July, while chef Ollie Dabbous will join the team from Bompas and Parr in August, for an event focused on taste.
The final event in the series will take place in September and examine creativity.
Innocent had planned to bring back its summer festival last year following a three-year hiatus, but had to scrap plans due to low ticket sales.
