Mines & Money 2012

We have run the production for Mines & Money for the last three years though this year the theme was to be centralised upon London. Drawing on the event branding we composed a set of similar elements to ensure that the theme ran throughout.

The stage was a bespoke build which the team pieced together back at our warehouses in advance to ensure that all proportions were accurate and that overall the set and stage were flawless. With the screens being as large as possible we had to create a tiered stage to ensure that as winners came up to stage to take a picture in the centre; the central section was higher but the stages either side beneath the screens were low enough not to be compromised by people walking on stage.

The event itself was set up on the event day and the team pulled together; a crew of ten to ensure that the rig was seamless.

All in position the event kicked off at 18:45 when the drinks reception began.

Within the drinks area due to sponsorship we needed to incorporate the drinks sponsor within the bar area which we ensured by incorporating framed logos behind the bar. Our media team also created a bespoke micro tile wall which was set up in an ‘M’ shape to mirror the event branding. This feature wall had a loop which showcased the variety of sponsors and important event dates along with featured videos of other Mines & Money events. With all events, sponsorship is key and ensuring that sponsorship expectations are surpassed utilising all opportunities which can be venue dependent is paramount.

After a successful reception the guests came into the main room for the core event – the awards. Alexander Armstrong was the speaker who captivated the audience contributing to a seamless event. With only eight awards we began the meal and the awards section with stings to separate the evening and to ensure that the guests’ attentions were retained.

Initially as guests were seated we begun with an exhibition sequence to sum up and conclude the previous two days that the guests experienced at the Mines & Money Conference followed by a three course meal.  Over the meal which took an hour we ensured that another sponsorship opportunity was utilised by creating an animated dinner loop of all of the sponsors from Platinum to silver, including table sponsors and the sweepstake sponsor. This event in particular has a myriad of levels of sponsorship so we had to incorporate this into the animation which was successfully encapsulated by our Media Teams creativity.

To open the awards an opening sequence bespoke to the Mines & Money awards was utilised to introduce the awards section. This incorporated images of mining from around the world so that all guests involved in the mining industry were highlighted and images from last year’s successful winners were incorporated.

Each award is sponsored which we enhanced by utilising bespoke plasma lecterns so each independent award sponsor was highlighted individually as their award was taking place. A follow spot was used to light up each winner ensuring that they received the well-deserved praise of the audience.

Following the awards guests continued to celebrate at the bar and the Dodgems provided onsite for entertainment. The event ran until 01:00 when we commenced the de-rig. We were tucked up in bed by 02:30 – all happy in the notion that the evening was a great success and well worth the months of preparation.
